How You Can Be Debt-free And Prosperous

Debt-freedom is possible

Have you ever thought of yourself as debt-free? What does God say about debt? Well, I personally have also struggled with debt and then turned to the Word of God to help me get debt-free. It didn’t happen overnight but praise God, it did happen eventually.

What I have since learned is that debt is a spiritual problem and it is a very aggressive spirit indeed. Once it has you it will not let you go easily. You have to make up your mind that you will win and become debt-free. The Bible way is the only way to rid yourself of this icky problem for once and for all.

What the Bible says about debt-freedom

While it is not a sin to borrow – it certainly is not God’s best for us. God wants us to be debt-free. We as born-again believers are meant to be the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. (Deuteronomy 28:13). We are to walk in victory in every area of life. Non-believers should wonder what it is that is so different about us that they ask us about it. They should want what we have. That is how we can become an authentic witness to the goodness of Christ.

The Word of God also says that “the borrower is servant to the lender”. (Prov 22:7) Just think of how you feel when debt-collectors call. When they say jump you have to ask how high, because you are their servant! Does that sound like freedom? No way! Satan is the author of poverty while God is the author of abundance.

The Word of God is clear about debt. Romans 13:8 says, “Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another,” (AMPC). It doesn’t get any plainer than that.

When we don’t owe anybody then we are free to give on any occasion as the need and opportunity arise. We won’t have to first think, “Oh, my car payment is coming up, so I really can’t give, because I don’t have any extra money to give”. Our only responsibility then is to love our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. We thus become “love and prosperity agents” for God. What a wonderful feeling that is let me tell you.

God gave man prosperity from the beginning in the garden of Eden. He gave Adam everything he could possibly need – companionship, abundance, and a kingdom. Poverty and lack came into the picture when Adam disobeyed God and started operating under Satan’s dominion. But thank God he made a way back for us through His covenant with Abraham. We no longer have to live under Satan’s dominion.

In Genesis 17:21, God promised that His blessing would extend to all of Abraham’s descendants while Galatians 3:29 declares us covenant descendants of Abraham! It says, “And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you. What’s more, is that God wants us to enjoy all of these blessings. Psalm 35:27 says, “Let the Lord be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant,” (NKJV).

So why does God want us to be prosperous? He wants us to be blessed so that we can go out and be a blessing to someone else! If we are the ones who are always broke then we cannot give bread to someone who is hungry and we will not be able to spread the gospel. Simple as that.

And how can you go and lay hands on someone who is sick if you are the one lying in hospital? So you see we need to operate from a place of abundance. Let Satan never ever make you believe that it is wrong to want abundance in your life. We are meant to have abundance in our lives and to be blessed so that we can be a blessing to others.
