How to Fix Your Attitude Towards Money

Our Relationship To Money

How does money affect your life? Does money control how you think and act? If so then it is time for a financial attitude adjustment on your part. Your financial attitude adjustment should be the following: I serve God and money serves me! Not the other way around. Jesus said that you must choose your master, will your master be God or money, because you cannot serve both.

You cannot serve two masters

According to Matthew 6:24-25, “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life – whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?” (NLT).

God cares for you

Please remember that God cares for you at least as much as He loves and cares for the birds; and do they lack for anything? No, of course not. God cares and loves you even more than that. Matthew 6:26, “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in the barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to Him than they are?” (NLT). In addition to that you have the privilege to sow and reap; birds do not.

Money doesn’t control you

You must determine that money does not control you. Seed doesn’t control you. No, it is your provision. Genesis 1:29 says, “Then God said, ‘Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your good’”(NLT). So you see, you determine where and when to sow. Whether you have money or not, it shouldn’t control you – God is your source. Say that out loud and let the truth of it sink in for a moment.

It is not money itself that is the problem, but rather the love of money that is the root of all evil, according to 1 Timothy 6:10, “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows” (NLT). So then it follows that if we don’t love money, then we will be free from any hold it has over us. We should love God and people instead, as God commands us in His Word.

Money is your servant

Money is and should be your servant! God does not want you to be burdened and carry financial pressure. Matthew 6:31-33, “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (NLT). Serve God by giving Him your thought life. Meditate on God instead of your financial worries. Give them to God and let Him take over.

Lastly confess this over your life: I refuse to stress over financial pressures and circumstances. Jesus has redeemed me from the curse of the law and poverty and lack are under the curse. I am thus free from these. I receive God’s love and He takes good care of me. I give my thought life to God. I refuse to let worry take over. Money is my servant. I serve God and not money! In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen
